Say It Loud: The Overlook Quartet
Thursday, January 16, 2025 | Green Room at Crosstown
This all-female string quartet hails from New York City but has a long-standing relationship with Memphis through Iris. Their 5-day residency includes workshops and performances in educational, community and healthcare settings. Using the practice of deep listening developed by composer Pauline Oliveros, the group will invite audiences to join them in this meditative practice which promotes peace and well-being. Their final performance at Crosstown Arts includes an eclectic program of music by under-represented composers designed to engage the audience in deep listening, dialogue and joyful music-making. This residency kicks off an eight-week workshop series in partnership with Baptist Centers for Good Grief using music listening and composition to help families experiencing grief.
